In this post I wanted talk about the biggest mistake people make in January with their fitness

From working in fitness for Nearly 15 years, I have seen people struggle again and again with this

Everyone is PUMPED in January and as a coach, Its awesome to see and its a great time to start with a clean slate.

But the BIGGEST mistake people make is focusing on Intensity instead of Consistency with their resolutions.

Lots of us go into January guns blazing from doing ZERO to working out 6 x days per week, plus dieting and doing dry January. Maybe even some crazy detox stuff too!

Look, I commend anyone who IS improving their health in some way right now especially in the current climate. But doing it all at once or doing it too intensely, is a sure fire way of burning out within a few weeks and resorting back to old habits.

If I think about all the members who are or have trained with us over the years, the ones who get the best results, are always the ones who are CONSISTENT over everything else.

They may only work out 2-3 times a week in January but they're still working out 2-3 times a week come April, September and December.

Seriously. Consistency is your biggest ally.

Especially if you want to REALLY change your habits long term..

Im not trying to dampen your enthusiasm
but enthusiasm dies quickly when we go too hard, restricting ourselves and punishing our bodies.

So, How do you know if you're doing too much? Well, can you realistically see your self doing this amount of exercise/ dieting etc 3, 6, or 12 months from now?

If the answer is no then you're doing too much.

 The solution?
Think Tortoise and Hare and make a realistic plan. If its working out twice a week for 20 mins, great -  start there and commit. If its going for 2 x 30 minute walks a week, great -  start there and commit. If its swapping the daily crisps snack for your favourite fruit, great start there and commit.

Starting small but consistently means you'll cultivate a habit, Once you've developed that habit, you'll find you want to workout more or make more changes to your diet etc. The compound effect of consistency over time will give you the best results long term.

Sorry, its not sexy advice or the quick solution but its da TRUTH...

Short term results are great
but not if you cant sustain them and end up back where you started within a few weeks.

If you typically find you're really motivated in Jan but burn out by Feb then its time to take a different approach.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over again, expecting different results.
